Junior Girl’s Soccer

In 2009 I was involved in the junior girl’s soccer. We had trainings on Monday after school for about half an hour on the field, my coach was Mr Easton our captain was Cassy.  The Games were on Wednesday after school we played at different schools, and some games were at Lynfield. I played soccer because I really enjoyed playing and wanted to keep fit and make a few new friends.

I scored most of the goals for our team, and in one game I scored a hat trick against the top team. Soccer was a really awesome opportunity because you make lots of new friends and keep fit.

In one of the games we played we played against Western springs (the top team) I scored a goal and another girl scored one too. The best game I played was against Avondale College I scored a hat trick (3 goals in one game).

Soccer was a really awesome opportunity because you make lots of new friends I really recommend you to try out for the junior girl’s soccer team as you will make new friends, learn new skills and will keep you fit

Sports at Lynfield College

This year I am year 9 at Lynfield College and play many sports for the school. The sports I played were 1 XI soccer, 1 XI cricket, hockey, tennis and basketball. They were all so much fun and I enjoyed them a lot. I will only tell you about one of the sports and that is 1 XI soccer.

To be in a 1st team you have to be very punctual, turn up to every training. And try your best at every game and training to make yourself break a sweat. In my 1 XI team I train and play at the highest peak that I can play at. I always set myself a goal just as we are about to kick off.

Normally I have the goal that I must score at least one goal or cross it into the goalie’s box and set up a goal. When I put my mind to it, I actually achieve these goals.

So to conclude this I would like to encourage anyone and everyone to try out for any 1 XI team because it is so much fun and you learn so much about the sport and you make a lot more friends.

BASKETBALL

This year I was involved in basketball. We were coached by Glendon and Nizam. Our manager was Mr Burne. We also got help from Tony  and Luke. Our training was held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday lunch. Our games are held at Trust stadium in Waitakere on a Thursday afternoon.

We played many games and won most of the games. Our trainings were held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime. For training we ran up and down the court, did layups, and played a game and practice defence and plays. I was happy when I got my first two goals against Waitekere             College. My best game was the last game I played two whole quarters and got the rebounds and tried my best.

Overall we came fourth out of the whole tournament. I have learned many drills and made many friends. I have better experience and skills than when I started playing basketball. Jarod

1st XI Girls Hockey team

In 2009 I was involved in the 1st XI Girls Hockey team. We had training on Wednesday at 7.30 in the morning till 8.30. We were coached my Ramon and Avraam. (Two boys from the 1st XI Hockey team). Our games were on Friday afterschool. We mainly played on Mount Roskill Grammar schools Hockey turf and Avondale college schools turf.  I played hockey because I play outside of school and wanted to play as much as I can.

Being in the 1st XI Hockey team gave me the opportunity to participate in the Mount Manganui exchange which was held in Mount Manganui this year. We travelled down there with about 13 different teams from Lynfield College.

We played out hockey game about 2 hours after we got there we had our game against the 1st XI girls hockey team from Mount Manganui, We ended up winning 3-0. The captain from each team had to pick a player of the day from the other teams and the captain from Mount Manganui picked me for player of the day.

The thing I liked the most about playing for the 1st XI Hockey team was the people a met and how supportive and caring they were. Meeting them added to the list of friends I had made at Lynfield College so far.

Hockey 2009

This year term 3 I was involved in the 2nd xI girl’s hockey team to represent Lynfield College. We had won most of our games and lost some to other great hockey players. I wasn’t in some of the games because I was on holiday. The games I played were awesome and they were funny too. I did get injured a lot by getting wacked on the fingers, arms and knee caps. We mainly practised on the school turf on Wednesdays or Thursdays after school. My coaches were Averam and Mitch and my other coach which provided the transportation and support was Mr Hook. We always had our games at Avondale College every Fridays and played one game at Mt Roskill. I had an awesome time playing hockey and I hope to play it next year. I would personally recommend this game to active and strong people that are willing to get wacked by a Gray’s hockey stick a go….

Netball

This year I was involved in netball for Lynfield College. There were 3 teams. Green, white and gold. I was in gold. Each team had 8-9 players a coach and a manager. The coach taught us new skills and the manager kept us organised and made sure everyone could come to the games. Our coach was Mrs. Maihi. Every Tuesday afternoon and Friday mornings before school we would practice. Then on Saturday morning we would play a game at Te Pai courts against other schools.

The games were made up of 4 quarters each quarter 10 minutes long with 2 and 3 minute breaks between quarters. All the games would vary from 8am – 10:30am. We would verse teams from other schools in our year and with the same amount of skills.

While playing netball this year I made new friends, learnt new skills and had lots of fun doing so. I will definitely consider playing again next year.

Junior Netball

In Year 9 I joined the Netball team which went through all winter, rain or shine. It started round June and finished round August. There were 3 netball teams which were Green, White, and Gold, I was in Gold. One netball team consisted of 8-9 people and 1 coach and 1 manager. My teams coach (Mrs Maihi) would teach us new skills and the manager would organise that everyone got to the weekend games. If you trialled for the netball team you automatically got in. Every Tuesday after school and every Friday before school my netball team would go on the Lynfield College netball courts and practice for the big games on Saturday, versing other schools.

The games on Saturday mornings were held at Te Pai Place in Henderson. All the netball teams from every school would be there and you versed other netball teams in your age group. These games were held at different times varying from 8:00am to 10:30am.There are over 18 courts, and in one game there are 4 quarters that are 10 minutes long, between every quarter is a 1 minute break and half time is 2 minute break.

Netball this year was great for me. I got to meet new people, make new friends and it was a fun time, it really has showed me that netball can be a sport for anyone of any shape or size and I know this experience has made me consider my decision for netball next year.
